Niemes Elementary School Programs
Green Kids: Students meet once a week after school to work with our Science Teacher, Mr. Zawacki, on various environmental projects, including integrating our Nature Center and becoming Niemes Naturalists. Visit http://niemesnaturalists.bravehost.com for more information.
Environmental Stewards/Student Council: Our Niemes student council/environmental stewards work to ensure we take steps toward an environmentally friendly school, lowering our carbon footprint, and making choices today for a better tomorrow.
Robotics Club: Upper grade achieving students are invited to participate in a Robotics Club to build robots, and compete in County events. Students meet seasonally during lunch and after school.
Science Fair Club: 6th grade students participating in the Los Angeles County Science Fair participate in the Science Club to research topics, explore ideas, and collaborate on projects.
Band: All 4th-6th grade students are invited to participate in our Band program, funded by ABC Unified School District. Students learn how to play an instrument and have 2 Band Concerts.
Accelerated Reader: All 2nd-6th grade students participate in the online reading comprehension program from Renaissance Learning: Accelerated Reader. Learn more at www.renlearn.com.
Track Club: 1st-6th grade students may participate in our track club. Beginning late January, students stretch and run or walk once a week after school. They track their distance with the goal of attaining the equivalent of a marathon! Emphasis is on a lifelong commitment to fitness rather than competition.
Volleyball, Exercise Club, Soccer, Cheer: Depending on staff and availability, various sport clubs have been offered to Niemes students.
Gardening Club: Our Gardening Club meets once a week after school to learn how to maintain our Nature Center, plant and harvest organic gardens, and beautify our school.
Nutrition Network: We partner with the Network for a Healthy California and the Dairy Council to promote healthy living habits. We have been identified as a Healthy School of America.
Botanical Society: Our parents have partnered with Niemes to maintain our 1 acre Nature Center.
YMCA & Extended Day Care: Niemes offeres various program before and after school for Day Care, including a free YMCA program (limited to 100 participants) and the paid Extended Day Care Program. Call the ABC District office for more information.
PTA: Get involved with our school, become part of the Niemes PTA.
